A couple of weeks ago, I walked into the S&G halfway through a number by a sax player with whom I was not familiar. However, he was a bit tasty and I asked Monty Ray who was sitting, hornless, nearby who it was. He replied - "Don't you know Martin Dale?"...
Of course, I'd heard the name but I'd never been in the right place at the right time before. Suffice it to say that it turned out to be a great night (the last time I saw Ray Roberts in the audience was when James B. Cannon returned several months ago!). Max and Claudia rose to the occasion and Pip even continued after 11.05 - high tribute!
I shall review Martin's CD shortly.
As for tonight, Monty was in excellent form. There was a fine sax player who only got to sit in for one number because there was a chanteuse who did a couple. After a bit of head-scratching, I decided it must be Zina - like the make over and the delivery, but the mike needed a bit more volume. So, just another good jazz night, as if there's ever a bad one.
