Events Carmen Rosa are back in Falmouth after their success at Events Square in August. Supported by local bands The Eyelids, The Truths and Richie Thomas (from Sowena), they are playing a special one-off gig at the Princess Pavilion on Saturday, September 29th 2007...

The event is a charity concert to mark the 50th anniversary of Falmouth Age Concern and their work with some of the most vulnerable members of the community. All the bands are giving their time for free and tickets have deliberately been priced very low (just £5 or £4 in advance and for students) to help ensure a really good turnout. All proceeds go to the charity.

The evening rock concert will be the culmination of a multi-faceted day at the Pavilion. During the afternoon there will be a garden party, with brass bands, choirs, poetry readings and numerous children’s activities. Around the garden there will be also be books, cakes, plant, preserves and white elephant stalls as well as the chance to take part in some ‘indulgence’ activities – exercise, massage, health and beauty.

Chris Spencer of the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow will be holding an antiques valuation, starting at 2 o’clock. For a small fee, visitors are invited to come along and have antiques of any kind valued, as well as items of jewellery.

At 5.30 there will be a ‘tutored’ wine tasting organised by the prestigious Wine in Cornwall company.

A poetry competition is already concluded and the short-listed poems printed, and a raffle is ongoing, to be drawn in October. Many local businesses have donated some great prizes.

Sponsors of the event include Barclays Bank, Heather & Lay Estate Agents and Clark-Jenner Chartered Accountants.

“We have been just overwhelmed by the number of people giving their time and energy to help the charity,” said the event co-ordinators Peter Maxted and Debra Clarke. “Now all we need is everyone in Falmouth and Penryn to turn up and make the day (and the evening) a success.
