Local News Falmouth Soul Sensation Having had a great run of shows in 2014, including sell out shows at the Acorn in Penzance...

... rapturous responses at the Looe Music Festival and great acclaim supporting the Three Degrees on the West Country section of their world tour, we have just private parties and weddings through to the new year except for our last public gig of 2014 at;

Five Degrees West, Grove Place, Falmouth
Friday November 21st
9.15 TILL MIDNIGHT
Free Entry

The band plays an eclectic mix of classic and modern soul music that appeals to all ages. They are a community outfit with a range of musicians and singers of all ages from 14 upwards.

Some have previously played in well-known bands, including bandleader Bob Black who was drummer with '80s hit band the Flying Lizards and managed chart acts like The Passions and The Modettes.

Dave Oughton played keyboards and harmonica in the late '60s with Coventry's Tuxedo Junction Blues Band, supporting such acts as the original Fleetwood Mac, Roy Harper and the Edgar Broughton Band, as well as appearing at the legendary Marquee Club.

Others are new to soul bands, having previously played in classical music ensembles or learned music at local schools and colleges. For example, singer, performer and poet Elly Gow, from The Lizard, learned to sing at Mullion School and studied performance at Truro College. Tamara Carroll is singing this year having moved on to college from Falmouth School and has a stunning voice for one so young.

Many have a huge Cornish pedigree like Lyn Clay, who toured extensively with the duo Two's Company and the band Summer Wine, and Andy Roberts and Nigel Skews who worked throughout the county with the Noisy Boys and Driftwood (and as part of Double Vision).

The horn section features Derek Johnston, Izzy Collinson, Florence Jones on alto, and two experienced musicians from Newlyn, Ellen Morgan on alto and Andy Beard. The multi talented Richie Beaton brings some new guitar licks to complement the classic soul guitar of Andrew Thomas.
