On South West Tour from 8 Dec 2004...
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Adapted by Bill Scott & Dominic Power
Directed by Bill Scott
Music by Tim James
Cornwall’s Miracle Theatre Company tours its new multimedia family show across the South West and Wales over the next few months. This adapted production of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, only loosely based on Jules Verne’s novel, opens for a two week run at the Barbican Theatre, Plymouth on Dec 8th, before playing at Falmouth’s Princess Pavilion over Christmas and touring until the end of Feb 05.
Miracle Theatre’s special blend of sparkling comedy, captivating music and multimedia effects will play havoc with Jules Verne’s classic novel and will introduce a whole new generation to the original Nemo. Our new hero is a Cornish fisherman who, disgruntled with fishing quotas and the prospect of having to scupper his beloved trawler, the ‘Naughty Lass’, makes a last defiant trip to sea in the face of a storm and is washed overboard. On the seabed he meets Davy Jones, ‘borrows’ his submarine and sets out to take revenge on those that have put him out of business. But he is surprised to find he is not alone on the ‘Nautilus’ and that the other crew members have different priorities.
“This may not be a traditional panto” says director Bill Scott “but this story of a local fisherman, who enters a fantastical underwater world brimming with mermaids and monsters, is genuine family entertainment: a visual and musical delight for adventurous children and adults of all ages”.
Since it began in 1979, Miracle Theatre Company has built up a first class reputation for its exciting touring productions of classic works and new writing, designed for a wide variety of venues and always with a wide-ranging audience in mind. Now revenue funded by the Arts Council, it produces an outdoor summer tour and an indoor winter show each year.
You can find out what goes on in the minds of tormented villains, in the hearts of heroic mermaids and in an underwater world brimming with shocks and surprises at a venue near you this winter. Check www.miracletheatre.co.uk for full tour dates.
